WILLIAM BOHANNON b. ca 1730 Brunswick Co, VA in an area which is now Henry Co, VA. He is possibly a s/o Henry & Ann (Booten or Botten) Bohannon. During the Revolutionary War, William Bohannon of Henry Co, VA furnished supplies for the revolution (from Henry County Ended Law and Chancery Records). He took the Oath of Allegiance during the war and was one of the Militiamen in Owen Reuble’s Company who marched to the assistance of General Green in the Battle of Guildford Court House in North Carolina on 11 Nov 1781 (from History of Henry Co, VA by Judith P. A. Hill, 1925, p. 14 & 304). Mrs. Fanalue Whitson Carlen of Cookeville, Putnam Co, TN, was accepted into the DAR in the 1930’s based on his service as a “Patriot” (DAR Nat’l. No. 261401). http://genealogyconnections2.blogspot.com/2010/11/lists-of-bohannan-bs.html List of names of the Bohannan's (My other blog)
William was married twice. His first wife, believed to be named RUTH, d. ca 1772. It’s believed that the first eight children were from this marriage. Several of these children married into the Cook family in Virginia and went to Woodford, Shelby & Henry Counties in Kentucky. There are good write-ups on this in Railey’s Woodford Co, KY, and Darnell’s Forks of Elkorn.
He owned land along the Falling Water River on “the other side of the hill” from his son, Lewis’, land near what is now the Poplar Grove area in White Co, TN. Directions from Mike Jordan: From the corner of Mill Creek Rd and Hwy 24 go west on Hwy 24 until just before I40. Take a right on Poplar Grove Rd and go about two miles. Take a right on Rocky Point Road and go about ¼ to ½ mile. The cemetery is on the left on top of a hill. There is a farmhouse near the road. The Falling Water River is south of the road. This is about five miles as the crow flies from Lewis Bohannon’s farm on the Calfkiller, but there is no direct modern day road through the hills. The DAR record says William owned 160 ½ acres in two tracts of land.
William m. 2nd ca 1773 to JUDAH LEGE/LEGG. Her name is proved by a deed in Franklin Co, VA. William was still a resident of Knox Co, VA in Oct 1803 (Deed Bk C, p. 302), but was in White Co, TN by or before 1806.
He died intestate (without a will) on 13 Mar 1816 White Co, TN (Will Bk A, p. 57). The settlement of his estate is recorded on microfilm reel #151 (Bk 1810-1828, p. 57, 58, 59 and 89) at the Tennessee State Archives. The Administrator of the estate was Thomas Barnes, William’s son-in-law.
An inventory was returned to the court by Thomas Barnes in July 1816. Listed were:
4 head of horses, 13 head of cattle, 15 head of sheep, 9 head of hogs, one cross-cut saw, 2 hand saws, 2 drawing knives, 1 foot addz, 2 pots, 1 oven (?), 1 pair (?), some pewter and household furniture, 1 waggon, 2 beds and furniture, some farming tools, 1 ? chain, 1 log chain, 1 pair of stretchers, 2 ploughs, 7 pair of drawing chains and one chest.

It is believed by most Bohannan researchers that these are the individuals living in Judah’s household. Everyone else seems to be accounted for in the family.
Judah (Lege) Bohannon probably died before 1830, as Holla Bohannon appears to be head of the household at that time.
