Mahala Vaughan Deckerd—if that is her name—is dead and I have never seen anything of her. That leaves Nancy; (11.)Nancy Vaughan Hickman.''
''Ancestry.com is a story of one of Nancy’s grandsons—Patton B. Flannery. It seems he had been involved in an unsolved 30 yr old murder case. In fact it turns out that two of Nancy’s children are involved in tragedy beyond all comprehension. As one news report pointed out, all parties involved were from families that were well thought of. The Hickman family even had a TN county named after them, and Nancy and husband David owned a huge section of Hawkins/Hancock County. Nevertheless by 1880, daughter Ann and husband Robert Flannery had moved in with them, and ten years later four of Nancy s young grandsons: Patton, Wilborn, David Jesse, and William would grow up to be stone cold killers who ran with a ruthless gang that terrorized the citizens of three states. Nancy s son Daniel P. went to Texas to act out another tragedy all his own. I don’t know if Nancy and husband David lived to see their grandsons go bad, but if they were alive—they could have read the story in newspapers from Virginia to Texas/Oklahoma. If the boys had robbed banks and the railroads, as they went around killing folks, they would have been as well known as the James bros and their kind. CALLICOTT, ROLLER, VAUGHAN, FALIN,

It lists Rebecca as Rebecca Falin Vaughan and gives her birth date as June 24th, 1801, which compares to what Nancy (Callicott) Vaughan gave for her daughter "Rebechah G. was born June the 24 day 1802" As I mentioned last week, in her father's day book, her name is shown as: Rebechah Gruer was born June the 24 day 1802 with the "2" in 1802 written over an originally recorded "1". So it is very likely that Rebeccah did not know exactly when she was born.The problem of course is that a Rebechah or Rebecca Gruer Vaughan sounds pretty different then a Rebecca Falin Vaughan. I am 100% certain the two women are the same person, but how did the name comes into the story. And why was Rebecca's middle name Gruer. What follows is a transcript of Benjamin Vaughan's affidavit for his mother Nancy (Callicott) Vaughan's Revolutionary War pension application. (This icopy is posted herein)
Ben was one of the middle born children of John and Nancy, and he gives in 1858 a bit of information on where his sister Rebecca lived:

Be it remembered that on this 28 day of May AD 1858 formally appeared before me a Justice of the Peace in and for the county aforementioned Benjamin Vaughn aged about 54 years, after being by me duly-sworn according to you both on his oath depose and say that he will be fifty four years of age on the 4th day of November in 1858 to the best of his knowledge information and belief. He further certifies that the enclosed record of my father. John & Nancy Vaughn is the record which was found knowing my fathers old paper and it has ever since remained to my possession and as to the correctness of which I certify that I can recollect the birth of Samuel, Martha & George W. Vaughn which part of the record I certify from my resolution and from circumstances is correct and that I certify that James, Polly. Beverly. Rebeky Vaughn are all four elder than me and that the last account I had of James he was in the State of Texas and that the last account I had of Beverly he was in the State of Arkansas and that Polly lives in Hawkins County in the State of Tennessee. Rebecky lives in the State of MO the last account, and that Nancy, Mahaly & John are all three younger than me but I cannot recollect the dates of their births and that Nancy & John lives in this county and that Mahaly is dead and that Samuel resides in the county and that the last account of George is he lived near Nashville Tennessee and that Martha lives in Knox County in the Stale of Tennessee and that my father John Vaughan died on the 14 day of July 1842 and that at his death he left a will in which I certify he willed to me John & Samuel Vaughn the tract of land where and now live and where on Samuel now lives that they paid him after the death of their said father $100. for his part of said tract of land and that his other lands and Tenements was divided amongst the other heirs and that I further certify that I know of know other record of the dates and births of said heirs or any other dates I recorded after the marriage if any such record either private or public he does not know any thing of them, and I further certify that after the Act of 1832 I heard my father frequently speak of his claim that he said that he would not trouble himself about it that he did not need it and that in

I , John Vaughan of the County of Hawkins and State of Tennessee, do make this my last Will & Testament hereby revoking and making void all former wills by me heretofore made.First. My will and desire is that all my just debts be paid out of any money that I may die possessed of, or that may first come into the hands of my Executors. Second. My will and desire is that my son George Washington, for and in consideration of the bequests hereinafter made to him do keep and support my wife Nancy Vaughan during her natural life.Third. I do give and bequeath unto my sons Samuel N. Vaughan and Benjamin Vaughan during their natural lives and then to their lawful heirs forever all my lands on the north side of Clinch Mountain, it being about 110 acres and 10 acres on the south side to copper ridge whereon the said Samuel N. Vaughan now lives, to be equally divided between them according to quality. Fourth. I do will and direct that the above named Samuel N. and Benjamin Vaughan for and in consideration of the above bequest shall within 12 months after my death jointly pay unto my son John Vaughan $100.00.Fifth. " 1841, Rebecca had married John Roller and by 1858 they lived in Missouri. So again, the question presents itself - where does the name FALIN come from? And, what about her middle name, GRUER? I'm really beginning to wonder if maybe John and Nancy had adopted several children either from different families, or else took in the children of one family. It could be that James (who married Martha Vaughan, William and Fereby's daughter) and Rebecca and maybe several others of their children were not biologically theirs. That would explain why my Ben Vaughan (named, no doubt for the Benjamin Vaughan who made the affidavit for Nancy, the elder Ben would have been my Ben's uncle) had Y-DNA that didn't match John and William's Y-DNA. Maybe it was his father, James, who, along with Rebecca, were adopted. Rebecca is the only child in John's day book with a second name attached, and James, the oldest child, does not have any last name listed in the book. Beverly was listed as "Beverly Callicott" (his mother's father's name), but the name was crossed out and "Beverly Vaughan" was entered in it's place. So it could be that Beverly, James and Rebecca were all not John's children.
At the website I mentioned above, it shows how many of the Rollers went to the area around what is now McDonald County, Missouri and Benton County, Arkansas. The two counties border each other and a ridge around Gateway, Missouri is named "Roller Ridge" after them. McDonald county borders Barry County, where John and Rebecca Roller moved, and of course, Benton County borders Madison County, AR., so they were only a short distance from the family of William and Fereby.
The question is, where were John and Rebecca in 1850? We know they were married by 1841, so they should show up somewhere. There is a John Roller on the 1850 Barry County, MO. census, but it is the father of the John that married Rebecca, according to the Roller web site. His wife was Mary Tutwiler and both of them were in Barry County, MO., living with an Adam Roller, probably a grandson. According to the site, John was there since 1830. I wonder if John and Rebecca were in Barry County early, or if they moved there later? They were not there in 1850, apparently. There are really no solid leads on them in 1850. Anyway, keep searching for some clues on John and Rebecca, as I feel if we locate some of John and Nancy's children in the 19th century, we might clear up some other mysteries of this family."

We have always had that a REBECCA (REBECKAH) VAUGHN had married a JOHN ROLLER. I decided to focus today on this JOHN ROLLER and all I knew was Barry Co Missouri. In looking at this entry for him the dates are in the same range. I also got excited to see a REBECCA buried next to him there in the King Cemetery. The VAUGHN bible/day book that JOHN Vaughn b1762 VA...completed for his REVOLUTION PENSION lists all his Children and their birth dates. He lists a child named REBECKAH b. JUNE 24 1800 1801? (this entry is near the bottom right corner...hard to read but its there)The person that loaded the grave info's family site is here....http://www.lgboyd.com/I see that his charts list her maiden name as FALIN and she married JOHN in Tennesee in 1801.Their Children are:

The "Parker" that Nancy N. (Vaughan) Sanders was first married to was Linda (Vaughn) Porter's, Dr. Walter Henry Parker. He and Nancy Vaughan were married and had a son, Remeses C. Parker. They divorced. "Henry" then married Julia Ann Fitch. Julia Ann's parents were Catlett & Margaret Louise (Vaughan) Fitch.

Wilson and Nancy Bowlen (Bowling) Vaughan. Wilson died and Nancy came to Indiana to be with her family until she died. Wilson's son, Stokley, born abt 1830. He married Amanda Sullivan, whose family came from Hawkins Co TN, as did the Vaughan family.

1. Andrew Jackson4 Vaughan (Samuel P.3, William Patrick2, Unknown1) was born February 02, 1815 in Warren County, Tennessee, and died December 29, 1882 in Hindsville, Madison County, Arkansas. He married (1) Mary Roller June 14, 1846 in Barry County, Missouri. She was born December 14, 1825 in Tennessee, and died March 18, 1863 in Hindsville, Madison County, Arkansas. He married (2) Elizabeth H. Faisse Abt. 1864. She was born Abt. 1838 in VA.
Notes for Andrew Jackson Vaughan:
1850 census shows A.J. was born in TN, records show they came from Russell Co, VA, he was in household #76, next to his father Samuel, in Paririe Township, Madison County, AR. He is listed as a " B. Minister" on the 1850 census. According to his Great Grandson, Bruce Vaughan, he was not only a Minister but a doctor. With C.S. Fritts he organized the Spring Valley, Arkansas Missionary Baptist Church. A son-in-law, Edward b. Eddis was also a doctor. Edward was an Englishman and later in life became addicted to narcotics and ended up in the Arkansas State Mental Hospital in Little Rock.
Andrew J. died from injuries received when his buggy overturned while crossing Brush Creek, east of Springdale on the old upper Huntsville Road. he is buried in the Vaughan cemetery.

Didn't believe in dance, but had big jolly boys that would pick her up and swing her around be cause she was so small.
Catherine traveled to Washington and California.

Jackson Vaughn gave them a tract of land near Spring Valley.
Three Sanders Brothers married Three Vaughn sisters. The Parents of
George Allen Sanders and Willie Frances Sanders died in the big flu
epidemic and were raised by Anderson and Catherine.
Catherine had an infant at the time and had to send Willie to a black mammy to be nursed until he was weaned.
Anderson and Catherine raised their daughter Nora's two daughters also.
Anderson fought in the Civil War. The slaves were freed and given 5acres of land each. The y all stayed to help Catherine during the war. Anderson ran up War Eagle Valley to escape the carpet baggers.
Catherine boiled dirt under the smoke house to get salt.
They could see cannon fire at Pea Ridge from the House

Notes for Charles Islom Vaughan:
His Grandson, Bruce Vaughan tells stories of his grandfather's childhood, such as throwing pebbles in a river when his father was conducting Baptisms in the river and yelling out "Dunk them again, Jack" each time his father would lower a person into the water, then throwing a pebble near by. His father later whipped him for his disrespect.
He also told about picking a fight with a skinny, poor boy on a beat-up horse one time. He pulled the boy (who didn't want to fight) off his horse, but the skinny boy beat up Charlie severely. Charles told his grandson the moral of his story was to "Never fight unless you have to and Never, Never pull a man off his horse".

Notes for Bruce C. Vaughan:
His son Bruce Jr. tells of having his tonsils pulled out by a Dr. Hill against the wall of a stable then his father going back home. Latter the doctor had to re-do the job as he had missed part of the tonsil.
He bought the store at Habberton, Arkansas in 1925 from Mr. Henson and built a grist mill behind the store, then bought the farm just west of the store. In 1929 he lost it all and John Morris, a cousin bought the stock and fixtures of the store. Bruce worked at a variety of jobs, including a barber and shop foreman for Late Chevrolet until 1955. He is buried in Friendship cemetery.

Ben apparently lived with his grandparents, William and Fereby as a boy.On the 1829 Sheriff' s Census for Washington County, Arkansas, a boy inBenjamin's age bracket (about 14 or 15) app ears in William Vaughan'shousehold. (This data from The Arkansas Family Historian, Volume 14 ,1976, page 170).
Ben was the last head of household appearing on the 1850 Madison County Census. He is listed at household #843, in the town of Huntsville, and listed as Sheriff.
Uncle Ben Vaughan, age 88 years, died at his home near Clifty Tuesday morning. Mr. Vaughan had been a citizen Madison County many years and was for several years sheriff of the county. He had also held the offices of representative and assessor. He was a highly respected citizen and his many friends will be sorry to hear of his death. Springdale News (Arkansas) April 17, 1903

Note: Here is the note from Freddie Todd about Benjamin & Cherubia living with the Andersons. It doesn't specifically say Isaac & Jane Anderson, but theyare the only old Anderson couple it could have been. It isn't dated, but it's his (Freddie's) handwriting. Grandpap is what Freddie always called Benjamin Vaughan.
"Ben, Cherubia and two more elderly people by the name of Anderson lived together in the house on the little creek. I have heard old timers tell it. Said Grandpap kept goats. When he would come home, you could hear him call out, "come, Grandpap is home". The goats would come out of the hills and over the rail fence."
Another note: "Lewis Vaughan stated Benjamin Vaughan was not a extensive land owner like
the rest of the Vaughans. He should take a second look at Grandpap's land holdings. Mickey Vaughan states Ben Vaughan bought 160 acres of land from his Uncle Daniel Vaughan before he moved to Huntsville - the beginning of his political career."
"Evidently Ben like the Clifty area better. Here he established his home. Owned some of the better valley farm which makes up the War Eagle Basin. Here he raised his children and grandchildren. Here was the village of Clifty, a flourishing village with a drug store, a harness shop, three or four general stores, hardware store, three doctors, post office, hotel, stables, and mill, and later a canning factory."

p. 4 - "Grandpap (Benjamin) Vaughan lived southwest of the little village of Clifty. He said he was plowing corn one day and heard a pig squealing down toward the spring. He decided to go down and see what the trouble was. Harness in those days was called plough gears. It consisted of harness chains, back band lines, and collars. He said he unfastened the hame string, taken the collar off, and laid them on the plow. He got on the old mare, and he and his old hound went to see what was going on. As theywere going down the path or trail toward the spring, a panther jumped out of a tree. It had the pig up in the tree eating it alive! The panther landed on the old mare right behind him! As you might guess, right then and there the old mare shedded Grandpap and the panther! The old hound ran away, leaving Grandpap and the panther in the trail. Grandpap said he was afraid to run, so he confronted the vicious animal. He said it would growl with it's ears laid back like it was going to jump on him. When it growled, he would growl
back like it did. He would just look it in the eyes and growl. Finally it began to back away from him and growl. He would growl and back away too. At last the panther ran, and he ran too!"

JOHN Q. VAUGHAN - "In 1863 John Q. Vaughan bought his present property which consists of one hundred and seventeen acres located in theneighborhood of Coburg, Lane County, and since that time he has been energetically engaged at its improvement and cultivation, eighty acres of whi ch are cultivated.
"He was born in Missouri, January 30, 1840, and came to Oregon in 1847 in company with his parents, who were seeking a home among the broader opportunities of the western states. He remained with his father until 1831, when he went to the mines in the hope of finding fortune which awaited the miner. He continued in the same mines for a year, and in 1861 he went to Idaho, still confident of his ability to succeed, and time justified the faith in himself, for after a winter spent in the neighborhood of Salmon river, during which he experienced hardships an dprivations which proved his courage, he returned to Oregon with $6,000 as the result of his persevering work. January, 1862 found him once more located on the home place, and there he remained until 1870, when he married and went to the farm which he had purchased seven years earlier.
"The wife of Mr.Vaughan was formerly Miss Flora Canterbury, and she died in 1895, the mother of four children, of whom Wilbur is located in Coburg; Oma it the wife of L. P Protzman; Euli a is the wife of A. C. Wheeler; Strahan St. Clair, who is engaged in agricultural pursuits with Mr. Vaughan. In political convictions Mr. Vaughan adheres to the principles advocated in th e platform of the Republican party, and fraternally affiliates with the independent Order of Odd Fellows.
