In the 1870s, southerners claimed compensation from the US government for items used by the army, ranging from corn and horses, to trees and church buildings.
A line from John and Nancy. William Tucker was the son of George Tucker and Ferriby Violet Louisa Callicott (d/o James Callicott and Elizabeth Vaughan)..Elizabeth being a daughter of William and Fereby.

In his deposition, George Washington Vaughan reports his age as 65 and states he is "about a third cousin" of WW Tucker. Info-by Tim Childress

The documents are dated 30 Oct 1878 testimony made in Huntsville, Madison Co, AR. This GWV also indicates that James Calico and John C. Calico; a Wash Sanders, Benj Vaughan and the Calico Boys that could speak as to WW Tucker's character. WW Tucker supported the Union. Also mention the bush-whackers even..there was a Vaughan killed by bush-whackers, was there Samuel.
Tim, that is a great find, I've always felt there are probably several documents out there witnessed by Vaughan men, or depositions and affidavits made by them that would provide some information. We've learn that Judge George W. Vaughan stayed in AR during the Civil War and was part of an independent company of soldiers that were trying to stop the Bushwhackers that operated in the area. The Ben Vaughan mentioned in the records is Ben Vaughan, who was a retired county Sheriff. Tucker wanted to get some respected men, and Judge Vaughan was certainly one of the best.

"It was Daniel Vaughan, brother of Samuel, who was tortured to death by bushwhackers during the Civil War who were attempting to find the source of his supposed stash of money. Last fall, some of the members of the Vaughan Pioneers group aided me in erecting cenotaph markers for Daniel & his wife Margaret "Peggy" HAMMONS Vaughan and also for William & Fereby BENTON Vaughan in the Vaughan Family Cemetery near Hindsville, in Madison County, Arkansas."
