James Willard died between October 3, 1827 and 1830. In Wilson County,Tenn. is recorded James Willard's Will in which he left to brotherJohn Willard 50 acres of land. The balance to adopted son WilliamMilligan, oldest son of John Milligan, all that my father left me at my mother's death except a brown horse and colt which is to be sold byJohn Willard and money to be used to give William Milligan 12 monthsof schooling.George Bode was named executor. Will produced in open court and fullyproven October 5, 1827.On page 99 of the 1827-30 Wills and Inventories of Wilson County,Tennessee, is recorded the account of sale of the estate of JamesWillard.
William Odom bought 5 barrels of corn for $5.00. Total of sale was$203.44½.It would appear that this James Willard was either unmarried or awidower with no natural children of his own. The only person named inhis Will other than his brother, John, being his adopted son, WilliamMilligan.
