Velma’s daughter Connie is much Closer to Phillip and Susan’s age and I will try to get her birthdate.

SARAH POINDEXTER 1665 _VAUGHAN

Connections to NE of Richmond, VA or to Hopkinsville, KY
Date: Tue, 15 Jul 2014 15:35:58 -0400

One reference to John V Vaughan 1665 and that seemed to point to the John Vaughan that married Sarah Poindexter.  Also found reference that Sarah Poindexter married James Vaughan. I think there mush have been two Sarah Poindexters involved.

Starting with the John Vaughan / Sarah Poindexter and moving forward  there are  marriages with Ladd, Crew, Wadel, Shields and perhaps the others.  The old Quaker MM that was in Charles City County is close to where Ladd,s store was  and just north of the James River.

Some of the Poindexter family moved just west of current day Hanover. There is a road off 33/54 called poindexter road or something like that.

We have DNA testing now that says these lines are very close, indeed close, William T Vaughan (your line) John
Vaughan (my line) and Timothy Vaughan born 1704. I have not found any proof but lost of folks are connecting William T, Timothy, and John as the children of John who married Sarah Poindexter.

Another line of wishful thinking attempts to link through the line that was in NC, then path of SW Virginia and ending it around Grayson VA.  I looked into this line and they actually did little moving the county/State  boundaries changed around them.  There was a William, James, and John in this line but I so far am unable to say that the John in that line is the one that married Sarah Poindexter.

Did a little research on river traffic and found that around current Surry and south/west the rivers that feed the Chesapeake and those that have an outlet around Roanoke Island are very close. In the 1600s these feeder creeks and rivers provided water ways for travel and transport. After the trees were cut and large amounts of land were tilled the feeder creeks and small rivers silted up.

Last week in a casual conversation I discoverer that there is a bunch of Vaughan folks in Tazewell VA. These seemed to be from NC and Grayson.

Thanks,

Reggie Vaughan

Subject: Connections to NE of Richmond, VA or to Hopkinsville, KY
I am trying to connect some dots to zero in on some ancestors. Would you contact me if you have any info and especially DNA connections to….

1.       Bourn, Poindexter, Shields, Hudgins, Marot, Napier, Benkskin, Hopkins, Rice, Ladd, Crew, Purrington,  Waddel, or Vaughan’s in New Kent, Hanover, Charles City County, Goochland, or nearby counties in Virginia around or before 1725?
2.       I know that some Bourn/Bourne’s from there settled in Grayson. Are you connected to any of the other names in #1 that you know were in Grayson/Wythe/Montgomery after 1725?
3.       Does anyone have connections to John V Vaughan b. 1665 in New Kent, Virginia.
4.       I am looking for anyone with family connections to Hopkinsville, KY (Christian County) prior to 1865. Especially I am interested in the families of Samuel Johnson, Anderson, or Vaughan who owned farms in that area. Any one or all of these three families may have connections to Surry, NC and to the New Kent, Hanover, Charles City County, Virginia areas.
