Cornelius VAUGHAN (1729-1785) was sent by George II to America as a solicitor. he m in Virginia, 1745, Franky _____, and their children were
Elizabeth, Milly, Mary, Sally, Fany, Edmund, Phoebe, Nancy, Peggy. One
account mentions another son, Thomas, who is said to have gone to South
Carolina. One Thomas Vaughan was in Fayette, 1791.
Edmund VAUGHAN, Sr. (1760-1823) was married in 1784 to Sally SAMUEL, who
according to the Bible record, was barely eleven years old at the time.
They lived in the Jett neighborhood, where their home, known as the old
Haydon place, is still in good condition. Their children were 1, William,
m Frances SUBLETTE, F 1808 and they went to Selby. Though one records
says they had no children, one Nancy VAUGHAN (dau William) m Joseph GREEN,
Shelby 1825, 2, Nancy; 3, John; 4, Edmund, Jr. (1790-1857, m first Sythy
BLANTON
, Fayette 1815. They lived at "Wheatland", the home of the Hanlys
at Jett and their children were: a, Sarah Frances, b, Edmund CARTER; c,
Harrison BLANTON, d James Orville; e, Benjamin, who went to Missouri; f
Lucy Catherine, m Samuel B SCEARCE. They lived on Glen's Creek and had
Edmund and Blanton, who went to Missouri and Elizabeth, who m Willia
Berryman of Versailles
. g, Ira. One record says his wife was his second
cousin, Lizzie Tinsley, whose mother was a VAUGHAN; another says he m
Elizabeth UNDERWOOD, Shelby 1856. They are said to have lived in Shelby
where they had several children, including; Sally, m A.D. MIDDLETON, of
Shelby; Mettie, m Lee LONG of Bagdad; Lucy m Roger BRYAN of Winchesster.
h, Elizabeth Sarah (1833-1917) m Hezekiah WINN, 1865 and they were parents
of Miss Lucy WINN of Versailles; i, John. Edmund Jr m second Mrs.
Elizabeth MONKS (dau John Pattie and widow James MONKS). F 1839 and they
had i, William Walker, k Henry, Edmund Jr m third Mrs Ellen CLARKE FOX
(dau Joseph CLARKE and widow George F FOX.
Walker m Fannie BLACKWELL, F 1824 and they had: a, William P., m Susan S
HARPER
and went to Saline Co MO; b, Dr Robert, who practiced in Louisville
and Versailles, m ___ Culver and had William and Millard; c, Mollie F., m
Daniel C HITT, d Sallie m ___ FLETCHER, and went to MO; e., Edmund, also
went to MO; f John M., m ____ and had R.S. and Ellen M. 6 Elizabeth
TINSLEY;
7, Thomas, m Mary HUGHES, F 1817; 8, Reuben.
In W 1801 Edmund VAUGHAN, Sr m Susanna THOMSON and their children were 9,
James m Charlotte Ashmore HAWKINS, w 1827 and they had Edward and William;
10, Mary Ann, m Dandridge S CROCKETT (s Col Anthony and Mary WILSON
CROCKETT
, Shelby 1820. They lived on a farm on the Lawrenceburg road
which is now owned by Mrs. Leslie MORRIS and their children were: a,
Susan, m Dr John HICKMAN, of Clay Village in Shelby who went afterward to
Cynthiana. They were the parents of George, m Hallie HOCKENSMITH, and
Pickett. b George, m Elizabeth ELLISON
(dau James HITER and Dolly E.T.
Foree ELLISON
) and they were parents of Hiter CROCKETT, o Frankfort, c,
William OVERTON, the teacher, m Margaret DILLON; d Florence m Alfred
STEDMAN
; e, Edmund m Mary HOLTON and they were the parents of Mrs. Fanny
FRAZIER
, of Frankfort; f, James G of whom the statue was made for the
ornament to the Confederate soldiers in the Franklin cemetery; g,
Dandridge; h, Emma, m Dr Coleman D PATTIE.
John VAUGHAN lived in the Bridgeport neighborhood and they had a family of
ten. He died F 1814 leaving his wife, Elizabeth and children. Lucy L VAUGHAN (dau Elizabeth) m Owsy DANIEL. Others in that vicinity were John VAUGHAN, m Elizabeth NEWBERRY, f 1813; John H (1800 or 1803-1876) m first
Almira PAYNE (dau Col Samuel and Nancy BLACKWELL PAYNE) F 1829 and second
Eliza Jane RICHARDSON, 1841. jAMES vaughan M mARIA motts f 1821; jAMES M
CATHERINE jackson, F 1830; and the infant heirs of one James VAUGHAN, F
1847, were James F., Amanda, Ellen, Emily, Martha, Elizabeth. Nelson
VAUGHAN m Sally JACKSON, and died F 1814, leaving a son John J who m
Dorinda PEMBERTON, F 1837 and they went to Shelby. They were ancestors of
Mrs. Ada DARLINGTON of Frankfort. Winston VAUGHAN (1798-1885) m first
Polly GALE, F 1821 and they had several children, he m second Sally
RICHARDSON (dau John SCOFIELD and wid Hiram RICHARDSON), F 1839.
Philip VAUGHAN m Margaret BLANTON in VA and they had William who was of
age in 1807, another son, and two daughters. It is not known where these
children came to Kentucky or not. One Philip VAUGHAN m Sarah Fleming
BATES, Halifax Co VA 1790. The will of Philip VAUGHAN, Green Co KY, 1827
names his wife Judith, son John, dau Sarah FRYER, granddau Judith B CLARK.
John VAUGHAN was in Woodford 1790. He lived on Clear Creek and was the
father of 1. Ellen, m John DALE, W 1808, and went to Shelby; 2, Jane m
first William PEMBERTON and second John DALE, Shelby 1838; 3, Alpheus who
died 1828 leaving his wife Louisa? and son Andrew T; 4 James of Shelby,
David and Daniel Vaughan were in W 1797. Daniel m Polly Covenhoven, W
1797 and had a family of eight, W 1810. James A VAUGHAN m Sallie F LEWIS,
W 1856. William VAUGHAN m Mary CHRISTIE w 1824. Cornelius VAUGHAN (s
James) m Franky WEBSTER, Fayette 1806; Cornelius M Emily FITZPATRICK,
Fayette, 1850. End...
